The problem of aging of the Polish population causes the need for the work period prolongation. However, both the work itself, as well as lifestyle and eating habits affect the health of seniors. Assessment of cardiovascular risk factors and oxidative stress in the context of the work and its character will allow us to develop guidelines for work activity time extension and the prevention of chronic diseases.

_MG_1371_895773On the November 29th this year the conference "Active living and healthy aging in Lodz and the region” was held. The aim of the meeting was to summarize the project Healthy Ageing Research Centre (HARC) carried out by the Medical University of Lodz between 2013 and 2016 and to present a new initiative - Lodz Reference Centre established in the framework of the European Innovation Partnership for Active and Healthy Ageing (European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing, EIP AHA).

On May 11th, 2016 in the Western Hall of the Medical University, the opening ceremony of the II HARC Conference on Translational Research in Healthy Ageing was held. A large group of guests from Poland and abroad were welcomed by the Rector of the Medical University of Łódź, Prof. Paweł Górski and representatives of the Organizing Committee of the Conference - Professor Lucyna Wozniak, Vice-Rector for Science and Professor Marek L. Kowalski, Coordinator of the Healthy Ageing Research Centre. The aim of the conference was to provide a comprehensive review of current research and the latest developments in the field of healthy and active aging. It was also an opportunity, especially for scientists and clinicians to undertake discussions on the effective use of research findings in clinical practice in some areas of gerontology.

During 3 days of the Conference in sessions took part over 300 participants who were able to listen more than 30 lecturers from over the world.

The Workshop on Nucleic Acids in Medicine: perspectives for new diagnostic and therapeutic tools, chaired by Prof. Lucyna Wozniak from the Medical University of Lodz and Prof. Zbigniew Lesnikowski from Institute of Medical Biology ofPolish Academy of Sciences in Lodz, was held on March 10-11, 2016 at the Medical University of Lodz and was primarily aimed to build a synergistic relationship between chemists, molecular biologists and medical doctors in the field of synthesis of modified nucleic acids and their application in biological and medical sciences. This important event was funded by the EU under Framework 7 and convened researchers from Europe to present and discuss the latest progress made in the area of chemistry and applications of nucleic acids.

         Centrum Badań nad Zdrowym Starzeniem (Healthy Ageing Research Centre) Uniwersytetu Medycznego w Łodzi serdecznie zaprasza lekarzy POZ, fizjoterapeutów, pielęgniarki, dietetyków, psychologów klinicznych i innych pracowników służby zdrowia na II Konferencję „Geriatria w praktyce lekarza POZ”, która odbędzie się 5 kwietnia 2016 roku w Centrum Dydaktycznym Uniwersytetu Medycznego w Łodzi.

            Konferencja obejmie swoim zakresem tematycznym problemy zdrowotne wieku podeszłego. W trakcie czterech sesji zostaną przedstawione nowe wytyczne związane z problemami osób starszych w zakresie sprawności fizycznej, wielochorobowości, diety oraz chorób kardiologicznych. Szczególny nacisk położony zostanie na aspekty prewencji chorób przewlekłych.

Do udziału w Konferencji zostali zaproszeni lekarze, fizjoterapeuci i pielęgniarki – specjaliści skupieni wokół Centrum Badań nad Zdrowym Starzeniem Uniwersytetu Medycznego w Łodzi.
