With a great pleasure we announce that Professor Marek L. Kowalski, chairman of Department of Immunology, Rheumatology & Allergy of the Medical University of Łódź, director of the Healthy Ageing Research Centre (HARC) at the Medical University of Łódź, has been awarded the international Daniel Bovet Award in Treating and Preventing Allergy.
The award is named after the inventor of anti-allergy medications (antihistamines) and Nobel Prize winner in Physiology and Medicine and is given by the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), headquartered in Zurich. The EAACI is an international organisation associating over 8500 scientists, researchers and doctors and over 49 allergy societies from all over the world. Every year the EAACI gives the Daniel Bovet medal to one scientist or clinicist from all over the world, who – in their opinion – has significantly contributed to the development of innovative diagnostic strategies and therapeutic schemes concerning the control and prevention of allergic diseases and has made contribution to the understanding of pathophisiology of the allergic diseases.
Professor Marek L. Kowalski, who is the first Polish laureate of the aforementioned award, accepted the honour during the official ceremony of the opening of the 34th EAACI Congress, which took place in Barcelona, from 6th to 10th June, 2015.
