Technical assistant in Department of Structural Biology of the Medical University of Łódź

Ms Małgorzata Chmielewska-Kassassir was born in Lodz, Poland, in 1985. She graduated from Technical University of Lodz with the degree of Master of Engineering in Molecular Biotechnology and Technical Biochemistry in 2009, defending the master thesis titled: ‘Expression of H-ficolin in normal and cancer cells.’ At the same time, she was a student of Medical University of Lodz where she was awarded the Master of Science degree in Medical Biotechnology in 2012, defending her master thesis titled: ‘Metabolomic consequences of arginine deprivation by ADI-PEG20 orphan drug in ASS-deficient malignant pleural mesothelioma cells.’ The same year, she started PhD studies at the Department of Structural Biology under Prof. Lucyna Woźniak, where she is continuing her research interests in the field of therapy and treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma cancer. Since January 2014, she has been a member of Prof. Lucyna Woźniak’s research team in HARC project as a technical assistant.

Ms Chmielewska-Kassassir has experience in cancer cells culturing, extraction procedures, analysis of genes and proteins expression with the use of RT-PCR, flow cytometry method and Western blot technique. She is also familiar with immunohistochemical staining of tissue tumor samples. During her studies at the Medical University, she gained experience in sample preparation and a broad-range metabolome analysis of drug-treated cancer cells using ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS) system as she served a three-month internship at Barts Cancer Institute of London, Queen Mary University of London, UK.

Ms Chmielewska-Kassassir is a co-author of 1 original paper in Cancer Research and several international conference reports. She is also a first author and a co-author of 2 reviews on the diabetes and gestational diabetes mellitus.
